FOOTWEAR OBSERVED

A bunch of us in a bar the other night. We meet a babe wearing a miniskirt and boxing shoes.

As a noted fashion expert, I commend this look for both hotness and practicality.

I met a girl at the St Kilda Film Festival opening night party who was wearing boxing shoes. Is this the same chick, Tim? I can't remember her name or what else she was wearing but she was hanging with the director of the Melbourne Underground Film Festival Richard Wolstencroft -- who, incidently, is currently in hot water for programming a filmed talk by Holocaust revisionist David Irving. Did your boxing shoed girl look like the type who'd hang out with a Holocaust revisionist scheduling film festival director? If it's not the same girl we may be seeing the beginning of a particularly erotic fashion trend.

Also of note -- I seem to recall a fashion mag (Vogue?) a few months back with the covergirl wearing boxing headgear.

Maybe her previous experience with the miniskirt led her to believe she'd be doing some boxing before the night was through.

In the mid-'80s, there was a brief fad on my campus for long, lacy, romantic dresses worn with army boots. Add some formal gloves and a Tom Petty hat, and your ensemble is complete. The 50lb backpack kind of spoiled the look, though.
