ADELAIDE MAN DESCRIBED

Via the SMH:

Lleyton Hewitt is the "dumbest" ever Wimbledon winner, says former champion Ted Schroeder.

"Hewitt may not be the worst-ever Wimbledon champion but he is certainly the dumbest," said Schroeder, 82, the 1949 Wimbledon champion.

"He has no idea how to get out of a scrape or change his tactics to suit the conditions.

"He just continues to hit the ball as hard as he can. And what can be more dumb than that?"

Answer: Lleyton Hewitt’s advertising campaign for toilet paper.

Uhhh. I'm not a tennis expert but this sounds completely wrong to me. Hewitt is not a power serve and volley player like Sampras was. He's a baseline player whose game is tailored to frustrate opponents - annoying tennis. But then again, he did look pretty stupid attempting lobs against an opponent who was 6'10". But anybody who has heard an interview with Sampras will know that he too is dumb as rocks and very boring - a great champion on the court though. Still, shouldn't you cut Hewitt some slack? He's, what, 20, 21 years old?

Dumb. That is why there are some many youngsters stomping courts every week, their aim is to be as dumb as they are becuase the compensation is the rewards for doing well on the pro ciruit. How dumb could Sampras, Hewitt,Borg, Becker, Newcombe, Philoppousis et al be.Seriously dumb, I suppose; they should have stuck to packing bags in the local supermarket.

Tiny Ken Rosewell was able, at 18, and without the big serve of his fellow 18 year old Lou Hoad, to show how you handled grass. Maturity, on or off the court, isn't simply a matter of age.

So, mother-son relationships are about these little truisms of life. Is that what they call an anal fixation?

He wins, he's world no.1, yeah reeeeal dumb. I wish I could develop that level of dumbness. I have to stick to the garden variety of intelligence that keeps me in an office five days a week, yay.

Remember Guy Forget, Michael Chang, Jim Courier, Marcelo Rios, et al who had their brief moment in the sun? Jim probably the longest.

Shortasses just seem to burn themselves out. It's the nature of the beast. Andre Agassi being the obvious exception. The guy's a freak.

Hewitt is toast, however. Watch his career match Michael Chang’s slow descent into mediocrity.

ps: If you pronounce Guy Forget as if he was an Aussie, it makes it EXTRA funny.

"Remember Guy Forget..."

No pun intended! But somehow I think my subconscious intended it.
